Likewise, we are serious about surfing, but also appreciate the finer things in life, like good food, good company, and of course comfortable and tasteful accommodation. We respect Mother Nature and admire the local character of this magical island and try to reflect it in every aspect of our surf school and surf camp in Bali.

Bukit Peninsula — the perfect place for surf lessons in Bali

In the surfing world, Bali is known for consistent waves and an incredible selection of breaks for all levels of surfers. “The Bukit”, as it is commonly referred to, “hangs down” from the island’s southern coast, providing an incredible mix of conditions for surfing, with its numerous top surf spots in close proximity to one another is what makes Bali legendary in the surfing world. Above all, our surf school takes advantage of these incredible surf breaks and together with our many years of surfing experience and local knowledge provide you with a surf adventure you’ll never forget.

Bali is the perfect place to learn how to surf and we built our camps as close as possible to surf spots ideal for taking surf lessons.

Padang Padang Right is ideal for beginners and those developing their technique, while Uluwatu and Padang Padang Left (the “Balinese Pipeline) are better suited for experienced surfers and pros. And you’ll love the breathtaking nature as well as the friendly locals.

Our Surfcamps in Bali

You’ll find one of our camps located in the southwest coast at Padang Padang beach, while the other right on top of Green Bowl. We’re situated walking distance to Padang Padang and within an easy reach to other famous surf spots, such as Uluwatu, Bingin, Dreamland, Balangan and Impossibles. Situated on the beautiful Bukit Peninsula, which features Bali’s highest concentration of surf breaks, Padang Padang is only a 25-minute drive from Denpasar Airport and only 3km to the north of Uluwatu temple.

The Rapture camp in Padang Padang is a friendly and comfortable camp with all the modern amenities set in a charming traditional Balinese architecture.

Wake group or private lessons for any level, whether you’re a beginner or an intermediate surfer. We love surfing and we love Bali — let us share our stoke and the best waves in the world with you.

What you’ll learn in our Surf Camp

A typical beginner lesson at our surf school Bali will cover basics like ocean safety, board handling, paddling out, catching a wave and then getting up to your feet. You’ll learn proper stance and wave riding techniques; whether you’re a “natural” left-foot forward surfer or if you surf right foot forward, aka “goofy”.

Surf Lessons Bali

Here are some fundamental steps you will start with at our camp:

Positioning

Start by lying down on your board, centred with your belly flat against the top portion of the board. Place your feet at the tail or just hanging over the edge. Make sure the nose of the board is leveled and not sticking up or dipping down into the water. Moreover, you can control this by adjusting your position on the board by moving slightly forwards or backwards.

Paddling

Paddling should look like a forward crawl swim stroke, except with arms out to the sides. In addition to that, cup your hands to push yourself through the water.

Stance

Find out if your stance is “goofy foot” (right foot forward) or a natural (left foot forward).

Catching a wave

Then it’s time to find a wave to catch. After paddling out, turn your board around so that you’re facing the shore, paddle forward equal to the speed of the wave, timing your entry to catch it. Place your palms under your shoulders and push yourself up so that you’re standing with feet shoulder-length apart, slightly bent at the knees. Place your back foot across back end of the board as well as your front foot at 45 degrees. Hold your arms out at your sides for balance and steering.
