Hey guys,
Just a quick word up about some lessons I took recently with Rapture's Bali surf instructor Teko.
I was looking for somewhere to start as a beginner that wasn't in Kuta: I found Padang Padang.
Did shop around the local surf schools for the best instructor/lessons. There's seems to be some reputable operators around but Rapture was by far the best value. You get virtually a whole day of surfing for a fifth of what you'd pay in Australia (my home country).
And surfing on reef was not even a concern. They wait until the tides are high and the instructor tells you which waves to catch, with an eye on you the whole time.
I felt very looked after, though a little humbled when I watched the 'ko' pull some rippin moves!
Very happy with this intro to surfing. I improved well more than i would've expected. Having a private instructor made a big difference for me.
If you're looking for somewhere outside of busy, crazy Kuta (though you can still scoot in to party - it's only half an hour away), I def recommend Rapture.
Big Cheers.

Resolve to edge in a little reading every day, if it is but a single sentence. If you gain fifteen minutes a day, it will make itself felt at the end of the year.

Here's to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes... the ones who see things differently -- they're not fond of rules... You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can't do is ignore them because they change things... they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do.
