Surf School in Portugal

Looking for an excellent surf school in Portugal? Come to Ericeira, one of the world’s best places for learning the art of surfing. At Rapture Surfcamp Portugal you’ll have access to a wide variety of waves that are consistent all year round. Enjoy sunny and warm summers, fresh and delicious seafood, incredible nature, and an authentic local atmosphere. All members of our staff are helpful, knowledgeable and eager to share their passion for surfing with guests of all ages and from every corner of the globe.

Ericeira is a surf mecca, combining the charm of a traditional Portuguese fishing village with the sophistication of a modern European holiday spot, full of yummy restaurants, picturesque and a buzzing summer nightlife. Rapture Surf School Portugal is an established and vital part of the local surf culture of Ericeira.

We provide first-class surf lessons from experienced, qualified, and licensed instructors, as well as surf guiding, quality accommodations at camp, healthy meals and special extras like yoga classes and weekly BBQs. Everything takes place in a friendly, laid-back environment because we believe that learning to surf should be as fun and stress-free as possible.

Ericeira: An ideal location for a surf school in Portugal

The incredible breaks and pristine conditions of the local beaches and water prompted environmental organization Save the Waves Coalition, in co-operation with the International Surfing Association (ISA) and the National Surfing Reserves of Australia, to select Ericeira as a dedicated World Surfing Reserve site — the first and (so far) only one in Europe.

Rapture Surf School Portugal is situated just metres from Foz do Lizandro beach, a long and mellow wave that is perfect for beginners. We are also within easy reach of 9 of Europe’s top surf breaks. The immediate area around the village of Ericeira is home to a number of world-class surf spots. A small 8-km (5-mile) area of coastline comprises the most famous of the 7 surf regions of Portugal, including Ribeira d’Ilhas, a regular feature on the ASP World Tour Surf Championship.

Each member of Rapturecamps’ staff is more than happy to assist all students and guests in any way, surf-related or not. We’d also like for each and every one of you to enjoy all the non-surfing aspects of your visit to Ericeira.

Rapture Surfcamps Portugal instructors are intimately familiar with Ericeira’s surf spots as well as other regional breaks, their conditions and necessary skill levels required to surf them at any given time. We have a combined 30+ years of surfing experience. All instructors hold European Surf Instructor licenses.

The Rapture Surfcamps advantage

At the villa home to the headquarters of Rapture Surfcamps Portugal we can see the surfing conditions at our local break simply by looking out the window. Our surf apartments are just meters away from the main house. Wake up early and catch a wave or just check out the scene from the comfort of your bedroom or the common lounge.

Whether you’re a beginner in search of lessons or an experienced surfer, our certified instructors can provide you with the fundamentals of surfing, advanced techniques or guided surfing. We will personally show you the best beach-, reef- and hollow point breaks with the optimal conditions at the time.

Besides our home spot of Foz do Lizandro other beginner-friendly breaks in Ericeira include São Julião and Praia do Sul.

Ericeira is also close to several historical sights, such as Mafra, Sintra, and Nazare and is surrounded by beautiful nature. So when you fancy a day off from surfing, it’s a great spot for hiking, horseback riding, bike riding or paddle boarding.

Surf lessons, surf guiding, and gear

Rapture Surfcamp Portugal provides expert surf lessons and surf guiding. Surf lessons are held every day except Sunday, though you are free to use our surfing equipment on Sundays if you have booked a weekly package.

If you do not wish to take lessons, but would still like to rent gear, surfboard and wetsuit rental are available on a daily basis. Surf guiding to all of Ericeira’s World Surfing Reserve breaks and beyond are available for a small fee, decided depending on the location of the spot.
