Portuguese Meat Pie

This meat pie is a typical “Trás-os-Montes” recipe. The filling can be prepared with various meats, sausages, vegetables, mushrooms, and aromatic herbs. An ideal recipe for a family lunch, easy to make and also to store or freeze for upcoming meals! It is also the perfect snack to take to the beach so you can eat something in-between surf sessions!

  • Instructions.
  • Ingredients.
    1. Preheat the oven to 180º C.
    2. With the help of a hand blender, mash the potatoes already cooked in the pan.
    3. Add the milk and butter and bring to medium heat, stirring constantly until it forms a puree. Season with salt and pepper and put aside.
    4. In another pan, sauté the chopped onion and garlic in the oil, add the minced meat and let it brown.
    5. Cool with white wine and let it evaporate.
    6. Add Worcestershire sauce and cumin.
    7. Add the tomato pulp and season with salt and pepper. Let it stir, mixing everything occasionally.
    8. Place the meat on a tray and cover it with the puree.
    9. Brush with beaten egg yolks and bake for 25 minutes, or until golden.
    10. Suggestion: serve with a fresh and varied salad. Also cooked or stir-fried vegetables.
    • Potatoes (Boiled) 1kg
    • Milk (Half-fat) 2dl
    • Butter 50g
    • Salt 1 Teaspoon
    • Grinded Black Pepper 1/2 Teaspoon
    • Onion 100g
    • Garlic (Chopped) 50g
    • Olive Oil 2.5 Spoons
    • Cow Meat (Minced) 500mg
    • White Wine 50ml
    • Worcestershire Sauce 1 Spoon
    • Cumin 1 Teaspoon
    • Tomato Pulp 150ml
    • Egg Yolks 2
