Surf Camp Comparison 2026

How Rapture Compares

An honest look at four of the world's leading surf camp brands — so you can choose the one that fits you best.

The Honest Truth

Choosing the Right Surf Camp Matters

Every surf camp has its strengths. We built this page because we believe you deserve transparent information — not just marketing spin. We've researched Dreamsea, Kima Surf, and Lapoint thoroughly so you can make an informed decision.

We're biased, of course — we think Rapture is the best choice for most surfers. But we'll be upfront about where our competitors shine too.

A note on accuracy: We do our best to keep this comparison up to date, but our competitors regularly change their concepts, pricing, packages, and policies. This guide reflects our research as of early 2026 and should not be taken as guaranteed at all times. When in doubt, check each brand's website directly for their latest offering.

Value for Money

You only pay for what you actually use. Book accommodation only for as little as one night, then add surf lessons, yoga, or meals on a daily basis. Want to go sightseeing one day instead of surfing? You don't pay for a lesson you won't take. No rigid weekly packages, no forced bundles.

Rapture rewards loyalty: returning customers get discounts across all destinations — so if you stayed in Portugal this year and want to try Costa Rica next year, you'll pay less the second time around. We also offer student discounts to make surf camp accessible for younger travellers.

The catch with "cheaper" prices: Kima starts at €54/night and Lapoint at €396/week — but those are base prices. Add surf school for beginners, dinner, board rental, and extras and the total quickly approaches or exceeds Rapture's rate. Dreamsea's European camps include food but charge €170–280 extra for surf courses.

Rapture Perks

Arrive any day, stay any length

Book room only, add extras daily

Returning customer discounts

Student discounts available

Free equipment all day, every day

Most surf camps make you choose between a fixed weekly package or nothing at all. Rapture lets you build your own experience — one day at a time.

Deep Dive 04

Destinations

Curated quality over quantity. Our Bali camps sit on the Bukit peninsula — direct access to Padang Padang, Impossibles, and Uluwatu. Our Portugal camps include Ericeira (a UNESCO World Surfing Reserve) and a premium villa with infinity pool. Every location is hand-picked for world-class waves.

Where competitors have more options: Dreamsea leads with 14 locations including mainland Spain and France. Lapoint offers unique options like a Maldives surf cruise, Norway, and El Salvador. Kima has unmatched Bali depth with 4 separate camps covering every vibe.

Total Freedom & Flexibility

Rapture Model

Typical Competitor Model

×

Fixed check-in days (Sat or Wed)

×

Must book full week minimum

×

Pre-bundled packages only

×

Pay for the full package regardless

×

Equipment included in package only

This is one of the biggest differences and something most people don't realise until they start booking. Rapture doesn't operate on a fixed-package model. You can arrive and depart on any day of the week — even for just one night.

You can book accommodation only and add extras like surf lessons, yoga, or meals on a daily basis. Want to go sightseeing one day? No problem — you only pay for what you actually use.

And at every Rapture camp, surf equipment is available all day, every day — for free. After your lesson, grab a board and keep practising. We believe time in the water is what makes a great surfer, and we don't want pricing to get in the way of that.

Deep Dive 06

Community & Camp Size

Rapture Camp — ~20 guests

Everyone knows each other by name

Typical Competitor — 50+ guests

Hard to recognise the person next to you at dinner

Every Rapture camp is intentionally small — around 20 guests at a time. When you sit down for dinner, you know the people at the table. When you paddle out in the morning, you're with the same crew you shared stories with the night before.

Small camps mean the staff knows your name, your surf level, and what you're working on. It's more like staying with friends than checking into a resort.

How competitors compare

Dreamsea & Lapoint

Large-capacity camps, especially in peak season. Great party atmosphere, but less personal attention day-to-day.

Kima Surf

Resort-style properties with extensive facilities. Impressive infrastructure, but the intimacy of a small camp is harder to maintain.

The Bottom Line

All four brands run solid surf camps. The right choice depends on what matters most to you — your budget, your skill level, where you want to surf, and what kind of experience you're after.

We built Rapture around a simple idea: total freedom. Arrive any day, stay as long as you want, book only what you need. Add surf lessons when you feel like it, skip them when you don't. Grab a board and practise on your own all day — for free. No rigid weekly packages, no forced check-in days, no paying for things you won't use.

That's been our approach since 2003, and it's why 85,000+ surfers keep coming back.
