Best Time to Travel to Bali for Surfing

Bali is blessed with warm weather and consistent surf year-round, making it a top destination for surf holidays no matter when you visit. That said, different seasons offer unique surf conditions depending on your level and which coast you want to explore.

Dry Season (May to September)

This is the most popular time for a surf trip in Bali — and for good reason.

  • Best for: Consistent swell and offshore winds on the west side
  • Top spots: Uluwatu, Padang Padang, Bingin, Balangan
  • Conditions: Bigger and more powerful ocean surf, ideal for intermediate to advanced surfers
  • Weather: Sunny skies, low humidity, and warm water

Rainy Season (November to March)

Don't be put off by the word "rainy" — this season can be amazing for surfing too, especially on the opposite coast.

  • Best for: East coast breaks that shine with offshore winds
  • Top spots: Green Bowl, Nusa Dua, Serangan
  • Conditions: Mellow waves, smaller crowds, lush landscapes
  • Great for: Beginners and intermediate surfers looking for fun, manageable surf sessions

Shoulder Seasons (April & October)

Transitional months like April and October are often the best-kept secrets.

  • Best for: Mixed conditions — you can surf both coasts
  • Weather: Still generally dry with lighter winds
  • Bonus: Fewer crowds, especially outside of holiday weeks

Our Tip

If you're chasing the best surf camps, the dry season is unbeatable. But if you're a complete beginner, traveling during the stormy season or shoulder months means easier waves, cooler water, and more space to learn.
