Surf Lessons & Surf School in Bali
Daily surf lessons on the Bukit Peninsula for camp guests and day visitors alike — from your very first wave to your first barrel.
Learn to Surf in the Heart of Indonesia's Best Waves
Bali is one of the best places on earth to learn to surf — warm water year-round, consistent waves, and a coastline packed with beginner-friendly beach breaks and world-class reefs. Our Bali surf school is based on the Bukit Peninsula, minutes from the waves that made the island famous.
We teach complete beginners who have never stood on a board, improvers chasing their first green waves, and experienced surfers who want a guide to the best peaks. Lessons run every day, the water is 26–30°C, and you'll often be riding waves within your very first session.
Not Staying With Us? Lessons Are Open to Everyone
You don't need to book a room to surf with us. Our Bali surf lessons are open to external visitors and day guests — whether you're staying elsewhere on the Bukit, visiting for a few days, or just want a single session with a professional coach. Book a one-off lesson, a multi-day package, or private coaching, and we'll provide all the equipment.
How Our Surf Lessons Work
Every lesson follows the same proven structure we've refined over two decades of teaching surfers in Bali and around the world.
1. Theory & safety briefing
Before you touch the water we cover the essentials on the beach — reading the conditions, ocean safety, surf etiquette, and the technique you'll focus on that session. Beginners learn the pop-up on dry sand first.
2. Guided session in the water
Your ISA-certified coach is in the water with you the whole time, choosing the right peak for your level, pushing you into waves, and giving real-time corrections so every wave teaches you something.
3. Video analysis & feedback
We film your session and review it together afterwards. Seeing your own surfing is the single fastest way to fix mistakes you can't feel — and to celebrate the progress you've made.
4. Progression plan
You leave each session knowing exactly what to work on next. Stay for multiple days and we build a structured progression so you measurably improve across your trip.
Surf Lessons for Every Level
Whether it's your very first wave or you're chasing your first barrel, we have a coaching pathway for you in Bali.
Never surfed before
We start on the sand with the pop-up, then take you into gentle whitewater on a soft-top board. Most first-timers are riding their first waves to the beach within the first session. No experience or fitness level required.
Standing up, want green waves
You can ride whitewater and want to start catching unbroken green waves. We work on paddle timing, positioning in the lineup, and angling your take-off so you can ride along the face of the wave.
Riding the face, want control
You're riding green waves and want to surf with more flow. Coaching focuses on bottom turns, generating speed, reading sections, and choosing the right board — moving you from surviving waves to surfing them.
Refining & guiding
Confident surfers join guided sessions to the best peaks for the day's conditions, with coaching on manoeuvres, wave selection, and tackling more powerful reef and point breaks safely.

Where We Teach on the Bukit Peninsula
We match every lesson to your level and the day's conditions — these are the breaks we use most for coaching.
Dreamland
Beginner–IntermediateA wide beach break with a forgiving inside section at high tide — our go-to spot for first-timers and improvers building confidence on green waves.
Padang Padang Right
Beginner–IntermediateLong, rolling walls on the inside that are ideal for learning to ride along the face. A friendly counterpart to the famous barrel next door.
Balangan
IntermediateA mellow left over a flat reef shelf — the perfect step up for surfers transitioning from beach breaks to their first reef waves.
Green Bowl
Intermediate–AdvancedA secluded spot for our improving and advanced surfers, with both lefts and rights. Reached via a cliff staircase, so it's rarely crowded.
The Best Time to Take Surf Lessons in Bali
You can take lessons in Bali 365 days a year. The dry season (April–October) brings the cleanest conditions on the Bukit's west-facing reefs, while the wet season (November–March) offers smaller, playful waves on the east coast — often perfect for beginners.
Mornings are usually best for lessons, with lighter winds and glassy faces before the afternoon sea breeze. Whatever month you visit, our coaches choose the right beach for your level on the day.
Everything Is Included
Every Bali surf lesson includes your board, rash vest and reef booties, beach theory, in-water coaching, and video analysis. All you need to bring is reef-safe sunscreen and a sense of adventure.
Combine your lessons with a stay at one of our two Bukit camps for daily surfing, yoga, great food, and a community of travellers from around the world.
