Best Surf Camps in Bali

Seven camps across both coasts, compared on the things that actually change your week — price, meals, coaching ratio and reviews. Ours included, weak spots and all.

Canggu & the Bukit

Seven Bali Camps, Compared Honestly

Most "best surf camps in Bali" lists are written by people who have never stayed at the camps, and half of them only cover Canggu. Bali has two very different surf coasts, and the right camp depends on which one suits you — not on which one paid for the placement.

Canggu is flat sand, cafés and nightlife, with the biggest choice of camps and the busiest water on the island. The Bukit, around Uluwatu, is reef: quieter line-ups, a slower pace, and protected spots like Baby Padang and Dreamland where beginners learn before they go anywhere near the famous waves.

Below are seven of the most-booked camps on both coasts, with the numbers that actually matter: what you pay, how many meals and sessions are inside that price, how many students per coach, and what real guests scored them. We run two of the seven, so our own weak spots are in writing too.

A note on accuracy: Google ratings and review counts were pulled from Google Maps on 27 October 2026. Prices and inclusions were read from each camp's own website on the same date; EUR figures are approximate conversions from IDR. Camps change packages often, so treat every number here as a starting point and check directly before booking. Spotted something out of date? Tell us.

The headline price tells you almost nothing. What changes your week is how many meals and surf sessions are inside it.

Standout Features

What Sets Each Camp Apart

Every camp here gets an honest knock, ours included. A comparison where the author comes out flawless is an advert, not a comparison.

Rapture Surfcamps

Two Bukit camps, built around flexibility

  • ✓ Only camp here with no minimum stay — one night is fine
  • ✓ Arrive and leave on any day, no fixed Saturday-to-Saturday
  • ✓ Pay for surf and meals by the day, not in a locked package
  • ✓ Boards free all day, not just during your lesson
  • ✓ Two camps to switch between, 15 minutes apart
  • ✓ Breakfast and dinner included Mon–Fri

The honest knock

We are on the Bukit, so there is no sand beach at the door and no Canggu café strip either — if nightlife on your doorstep is the point of the trip, pick a Canggu camp. Dinner runs Monday to Friday only.

Elsewhere Surf Camp

Canggu's most social, all-inclusive

  • ✓ Highest-rated camp in Bali: 5.0 from 2,333 reviews
  • ✓ Tightest published ratio here — 2 guests per instructor, max 3
  • ✓ 3 meals and 3 drinks a day included
  • ✓ Female-only dorm option
  • ✓ Nightly events and a built-in social scene

The honest knock

Seven-night minimum, and the lessons go into Canggu's busiest beginner line-ups. It is unapologetically a social, party-leaning camp — wonderful if that is what you want, exhausting if it is not.

Kima Surf

The big operator, three Bali sites

  • ✓ Cheapest entry point on this page, from €36 a night
  • ✓ Guiding twice a day, seven days a week — up to 16 sessions
  • ✓ Three Bali locations to pick the coast you want
  • ✓ Airport transfer included on stays of 5+ nights
  • ✓ Free bicycles

The honest knock

Cheapest way in, but dinner is not included and comes as a paid half-board add-on. Reviews are spread over three separate Bali sites, so check which camp the reviews you are reading are actually about.

WaveHouse

Two coasts, one operator

  • ✓ Sports insurance included in the package
  • ✓ Surf photos and video every day
  • ✓ Two camps: Canggu beach breaks or Uluwatu reef
  • ✓ In-pool technique workshops
  • ✓ 15% off stays of 14 nights or more

The honest knock

The most expensive per night here. The main base is Canggu, where Berawa and Batu Bolong are the busiest beginner line-ups on the island.

Mondo Surf Village

Village-style, surf and yoga

  • ✓ Quieter Pererenan base, away from the Canggu crush
  • ✓ Aerial yoga and martial arts as well as surf
  • ✓ Returning-guest discounts: 15% then 20%
  • ✓ Village layout around a central pool

The honest knock

No coaching ratio published, the fewest reviews on this page, and packages are built around a full week. Quieter than central Canggu, which cuts both ways.

Lapoint

The Scandinavian chain format

  • ✓ Known, consistent format across nine countries
  • ✓ Dinners included five nights a week
  • ✓ Transport to surf lessons included
  • ✓ Levels 1 to 4 with a clear progression structure

The honest knock

Five two-hour lessons a week, not two sessions a day, and only one video analysis session — available to levels 3 and 4 only. Beginners are driven to Legian, which is a long way from Canggu in traffic.

Dreamsea

Design-led, ocean views

  • ✓ Ocean views from every room type
  • ✓ Clear level 1–4 structure with video feedback
  • ✓ Weekly pack bundles dinners and yoga
  • ✓ Design-led accommodation

The honest knock

The lowest rating on this page — 4.2 from nearly a thousand reviews, which is a lot of people and a clear pattern, not a few bad nights. It is also the highest nightly rate here, and the 1:4 ratio is the loosest published.

Questions

Choosing a Surf Camp in Bali

What are the best surf camps in Bali?

+

It depends what you are optimising for. Elsewhere in Canggu is the highest rated (5.0 from 2,333 Google reviews) and the most social. Kima is the cheapest way in, from €36 a night across three Bali sites. WaveHouse and Mondo sit in the middle on price with meals and yoga included. Lapoint sells a fixed Scandinavian week from €579. Rapture runs two camps on the Bukit from €45 a night with no minimum stay. Dreamsea is the most expensive per night and the lowest rated here. All figures checked 27 October 2026.

Canggu or Uluwatu — which side of Bali should I stay on?

+

Canggu is flat sand, cafés, nightlife and the biggest choice of camps, so it is the easier first trip. It is also the most crowded water in Bali. The Bukit around Uluwatu is reef, quieter line-ups and a slower pace, and beginners learn on protected spots like Baby Padang and Dreamland before going near the famous waves. Pick Canggu for the scene, the Bukit for the surf.

Can beginners learn to surf on the Bukit, or only in Canggu?

+

Beginners learn perfectly well on the Bukit. Most of our own guests have never surfed. The first days are on Baby Padang — a protected right that runs from whitewater into clean green waves — or Dreamland's sandy beach break. What the Bukit adds is the step after: once you can ride a green wave, world-class reef is ten minutes away rather than a day trip.

How much does a surf camp in Bali cost?

+

Roughly €36 to €130 a night depending on the camp and the room. Kima starts at €36, Rapture at €45, Elsewhere at €55 all-inclusive, Mondo around €63, WaveHouse around €100 and Dreamsea at €130. Lapoint prices by the week, from €579 per person. What changes the real cost is how many meals and surf sessions are inside the price — compare those, not the headline. Checked 27 October 2026.

Which Bali surf camps include dinner?

+

Elsewhere includes three meals a day. WaveHouse includes breakfast plus lunch or dinner. Lapoint includes seven breakfasts and five dinners a week. Rapture includes a three-course breakfast and dinner Monday to Friday. Kima includes breakfast only, with half-board as a paid add-on, and Mondo has a restaurant rather than bundled meals. Over a week this is one of the biggest real differences in price.

What coaching ratio should I expect at a Bali surf camp?

+

Elsewhere publishes the tightest, 2 guests per instructor with a maximum of 3. Rapture publishes a maximum of 3:1, WaveHouse 2–3:1 and Dreamsea 1:4. Kima, Mondo and Lapoint do not publish a ratio. Ask in writing before you book — a coach with six beginners is supervising, not coaching.

Do I have to book a full week at a Bali surf camp?

+

Not everywhere, but mostly. Elsewhere has a seven-night minimum, Lapoint sells by the week with a four-day option, and Mondo's packages are built around seven nights. WaveHouse and Rapture will take you for a single night, and Rapture lets you arrive and leave on any day rather than a fixed changeover.

How many days does it take to stand up on a surfboard?

+

Most people stand in whitewater on day one and ride a small green wave between day three and day five, with two sessions a day. Daily video analysis speeds that up because you see the mistake instead of being told about it. Camps that run one lesson a day rather than two will take longer over the same week.

The Bottom Line

If you want the biggest social scene and the highest rating, Elsewhere in Canggu is hard to argue with — as long as a seven-night minimum and busy line-ups suit you. If you want the cheapest entry, Kima. If you want everything bundled at a premium, WaveHouse.

Rapture is the flexible one. Two camps on the Bukit, arrive and leave on any day, stay a single night if that is what your trip needs, book the room and add surf, yoga or meals only on the days you want them, and use the boards all day at no extra charge. Twenty years here, and 847 Google reviews across the two camps.
