Tropical sun, white sand beaches, turquoise water, perfect waves, lots of space and few people – Playa Avellanas, probably the best surf spot on Costa Rica’s Pacific Coast, is waiting for you.
At Rapture Surfcamp Costa Rica you live surrounded by pristine nature close to a beach that offers not one or two, but five surf spots, yet you are only a few kilometers away from legendary Tamarindo. No matter if you are a rookie or an expert – you will find perfect surf conditions that suit your level. Surfing, swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, hiking in national parks, spotting wildlife, heading to Tamarindo to party or just having a relaxing day at camp, at Rapture you choose your own adventure.
The camp is located just 20-minutes driving from Tamarindo, Costa Rica‘s party epicenter, yet the location is secluded in the middle of the jungle on a pristine white sand beach. It consists of a big, modern house with a common area, a bar and a terrace which leads to a tropical garden. The rooms have big windows, air conditioning and mosquito nets. You can relax in the common area post surfing or get a cool beer at our fully-stocked bar. In the garden you can lay in a hammock keeping company to some sloth or show the monkeys and iguanas what’s possible on a slack line.
Avellanas is a surfer’s paradise. The white beach in front of our camp is surrounded by mangrove forests and is home to 5 surf breaks that can be surfed at all tides and offer waves for all levels. Not only we have spots that suit all abilities but water is about 27 degrees Celsius year round making a wetsuit obsolete during the whole year. And since there are no crowds on our beach, you can enjoy brakes between surf sessions resting peacefully under a palm trees.
Surf Lessons and Guiding
No matter if you have stood on a board once or twice before, you plan all your travels around surfing the world, or you want to experience the feeling of riding a wave for the first time, our local surf guides know every break and will take you to the one that suits your level and offers perfect conditions for that day. They’ll show you how to successfully pop on the board, how to progress from whitewater to green waves and how to enhance your existing skills, taking you from riding to ripping. Of course, we have boards of all shapes, sizes, and abilities you can rent at our school.
There are plenty of activities in the area, beyond surfing, to occupy the light (and dark 🙂 hours of your day. Whether you enjoy hikes in nature and swimming under waterfalls or exploring the ocean bottom, whether you prefer the peace and quiet of the jungle or the hustle and bustle of a resort town, Playa Avellanas and Tamarindo have got you covered.
Our private shuttle service is the most comfortable way of arrival, picking you up at Liberia Airport 24/7, for 60$ for up to 4 people. It is also the most comfortable way to get to Tamarindo (local transfer prices upon request).
Costa Rica Visas
Visitors from most countries can get a 90-day tourist visa on arrival. At entry, you might be asked to show an onward or return ticket. Check your country’s exact visa requirements before you travel.
Costa Rica is a tropical paradise with an eternal summer of over 300 sunny days annually. Bring plenty of high-quality sunscreen and enjoy your stay to the fullest without sporting a sunburn. We recommend a 50+ waterproof sunscreen from an eco-friendly brand. We also strongly suggest you use zinc on your face. Zinc can be purchased online or at our camps. It is a complete sunblock and is the only thing that will protect you, as normal sunscreen comes off when you are in the water for long periods of time.
