Welcome to one of Southern Nicaragua’s most famous and consistent surf spots! Playa Maderas, located just north of San Juan del Sur, is only a 10 minute walk from the camp through a beautiful jungle trail. No matter what time of year you visit, Playa Maderas always offer up waves and don’t let yourself get scared away by its reputation as one of the most visited surf spots in the country – the crowds are still thin compared to most spots in North America and Australia.
The beach break at Playa Maderas is a good spot for everybody – from beginners to advanced surfers, as the shape of the beach creates an inner section that is great for those looking to learn how to surf, while the outer section is more challenging and fun for those more comfortable on their boards.
Other than giving you great surfing opportunities the beach also comes with a few cafes to relax in, a beautiful walk along the adjoining beaches during low tide and incredible sunsets! Within easy reach from Playa Maderas you also find other great surf spots, including Playa Hermosa, El Yankee, Remanso and Popoyo, as well as other activities like disc golf and horse riding.
